1. Introduction


The Department of Biochemistry under,Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College a Constituent College of Sri Devaraj Urs University, Kolar is a modern research- intensive enterprise within the Faculty of Medicine. The Department was founded in 1986 and has a proud tradition of excellence in research and teaching. The department boasts of Faculties with wide research experiences in their respective field.

Biochemistry occupies a Central place in life sciences and encompasses traditional disciplines such as Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and newer areas such as bioinformatics. Our faculty members are involved in various research activities in Clinical Medicine, Molecular medicine, and Molecular cell biology.

The department has fully equipped modern Clinical laboratory and excellent research facility for Undergraduates, Post graduates and faculties.

The department offers programs for MBBS, MD,(Biochemistry) Ph.D. (Medical Biochemistry) and B.Sc. Nursing degrees, attracting students from all over India and abroad. The department hosts an array of seminars and symposiums presented by the faculties and Postgraduates of the department regularly.

The department is also proud to announce the commencement of Ph.D. course from this academic year of 2009-10. We offer excellent student friendly Teaching learning methodologies as per the Medical Education Unit norms which have been appreciated extensively by the students.

We are particularly proud of our laboratory programs which express students to a wide range of techniques applicable to the Clinical Medicine.

The department is oriented in emphasizing and encouraging the importance of research for undergraduates. Along with this various Inter and Intra departmental research activities have been implemented by the Staffs and Post graduates.

The college campus provides a rich mosaic of neighbourhoods and activities in a vibrant multi-cultural milieu and is conveniently located in the periphery of the city Kolar, close to the hospital research institute, housing, hostel and other amenities.
