DEPARTMENT OF O.B.G.
The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 3 units, each headed by a Professor and assisted by Professor and Assistant Professors.Each unit runs OPD on 2 days a week and Sundays on rotation.Each unit has 1 OT day a week.Undergraduate teaching consists of daily bedside clinics, tutorials and theory classes in the afternoon.Postgraduate courses in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was started in the year 1996. Postgraduate teaching consists of journal club, seminar and case presentations apart from daily bedside teaching.Mortality meeting is held every month.A demonstration room with capacity of 30 students is attached to the OPD.The consultants on duty are available round the clock to care of emergencies The average daily OPD is 75 and admissions are 15 take. The number of deliveries conducted is 125-150. for month.The number of emergency surgeries is 50 and elective is 75-100.

Apart from routine out patient clinic, the department is conducting Special out patient clinics which includes, - Well women clinic
- Cancer detection clinic (Diagnosis cancer at earliest by Pap smear Colposcopic guided cervical biopsy.Endometrial biopsy (hysteroscopic guided)
- High risk pregnancy clinic
- Infertility clinic
Intra Uterine insemination - PMTCT
(AIDS/HIV detection for prevention of mother to child transmission)
In patient facilities –
Department has 100 beds in the hospital.The wards are well planned and constructed with good ventilation. Inpatients are taken care of by well-trained doctors and nursing staff. There is a well-equipped labour room with modern facilities including. - Ultrasonography
- Electronic – fetal monitor.
- Equipment for assisted deliveries (forceps, ventouse)
- Eclampsia room
NORMAL DELIVERIES FOR GENERAL WARD PATIENTS IS FREE
For the benefit of sick babies there is a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) there is a separate operation theatre for our department with all modern facilities. There is an operative Laparoscope and Hysteroscope with all accessories including video camera useful in doing all endoscopic surgeries. Diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic tubal occlusion and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy are common on laparoscopic surgeries done. Hysteroscopic surgeries include Endometrial biopsy, removal of missing Cu T etc. Apart from routine abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies Vesicovaginal fistula repair Rectovaginal fistula repair Vaginoplasty and Tuboplasty TVT procedures and done. CANCER SURGERIES DONE INCLUDE - Werthiem s hysterectomy (cancer cervix)
- Cytoreductive surgery for ovarian malignancy
- Neoadjuvant therapy for advanced carcinoma of cervix
- Chemotherapy for Gestational trophoblastic tumour (Choriocarcinoma)
ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION IS AVAILABLE ROUND THE CLOCK Apart from routine ultrasound examination Doppler study is also done. There is a well organized under graduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. There is a departmental medical auditing meet every day at 9am.
