Our President’s right choice, Dr.S.Chandrashekhar Shetty as the First Vice Chancellor is a renowned Ophthalmologist and rich experience of being Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.  He is known for his outstanding contributions to Community Ophthalmology and recipient of several awards in recognition of his services to community ophthalmology. He is a Technical Advisor, Sight First Program of Lions Clubs International, is presently the Honorary Advisor, Karnataka State Blindness Control Society and Advisor, Asia Heart Foundation and Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore.
 

ACADEMIC PROFILE

  • 1968 – M.S.Ophthalmology, Mysore Medical College.
  • 1968-1999 – Teaching positions at Government Medical Colleges Hubli, Mysore and Bangalore.
  • 1982 – Training in Vitreo Retinal Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital under WHO fellowship.
  • 1987 – Eye & Ear infirmary, Chicago (Illinois).
  • 1990 – Sydney Eye Hospital and Eye & Ear infirmary, Melbourne.

He has been awarded with “Doctor Honoris Causa” and “OSUM Gold Medal” by Odessa State Medical University. He has 11 oration awards to his credit. He has received 6 National and 14 Karnataka State awards and recognitions for his contribution in the field of Community Ophthalmology and Medical Education.

 
Research:

He has 45 research papers to his credit and has been a guide for Post Graduate Course in Ophthalmology, Ph.D Programmes and research projects at Bangalore Univesity, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, I.C.M.R. and C.S.I.R.
 

Hobbies:

  • Good sportsman.
  • Represented University of Mysore in Shuttle Badminton (1964 & 66).
  • Represented University of Karnataka  Teacher’s Tennis (1973).
